+ It's good that we can't see what isn't there +

Who: EVERYONE
Where: Wonderland and adjacent dimensions!
When: Friday, April 21st to Monday, April 24th
Rating: PG-13, warn if higher!
Summary: A place to list your tears throughout the event, and describe the worlds that can be seen or accessed through them. Event Post.
The Story:

While invisible zombies ravage Wonderland, tears are popping up everywhere! Through them characters can see versions of themselves from alternate universes. Some of them show a different version of Wonderland, some a different version of their home. Some are as benign as a character drinking coffee instead of tea, others are as drastic as somebody's entire personality changed completely.

On day one tears are so small as to barely even be recognisable. Faint voices and melodies can be heard through the tiny cracks if you step really close, but these brief and indistinct glimpses are barely even worth describing.

On day two tears have opened up wide enough to recognise them for what they really are. Yesterday's melodies will sound clearer, and the voices will become decidedly familiar, belonging to people characters know, sounding perhaps even like the characters themselves. Look through the tears and they may catch sight of home, or something that merely looks like another part of Wonderland. The tears are yet narrow and instable though, and the field of vision is correspondingly poor.

On day three the tears have grown a great deal. The worlds beyond them can be seen and heard, though most cannot be interacted with at all. Only the biggest ones are already stable enough for characters to stick their hand inside, and pulls through any objects within reach.

On the fourth and last day some tears have finally become large and stable enough for characters to pass through whole. Not all tears will reach this stage, but those who have can be visited, and the world beyond them explored... at each character's own peril.

That's not very specific.

[Well, it was in a way, but it was too general for Bucky's tastes. He always thought of monsters as something bad, but Mettaton explained once that wasn't always the case.]

But going by that, yes. There are monsters here.

[A lot of them then.]

Then you are in danger.

[Their voice sharpens, and a new purposeful glint enters their glower, even as they continue to be apparently unable to pick out the spot from which the voice is issuing.]

Grave danger. From all of their kind.

They haven't done anything.

[Bucky sighs, because this was probably going to go south fast. He felt the need to be honest, though.]

I know one of them, pretty well. He's real nice. Livens the place up, you know?
determinedest: (* In my way.)

No.

[Their tone is bereft of any good humor that Frisk might ordinarily display; the softer, rounded edges, the downcast gaze, the nervous twitch of their fingertips - all of it is utterly absent. The human speaking to him now may as well be carved from marble, their expression flinted, their tone cold.]

He will turn on you. Every one of them will.

It is their nature.

[Bucky figures he said the wrong thing, but he'd known that was a possibility. He didn't want to upset them, though.]

This is damn strange. Talking to you through a crack in space. You can't even see me.

[He steps in, looks a little closer.]

What did they do? The monsters.
determinedest: (* Where oh where could that child be?)

[A crack in space, is it? That rather makes things infuriating, as he's impossible to detect in the slightest. Should he prove to be a threat - even if he is, ostensibly human...

They would have no way to know. Would they?]

They take your SOUL.

[That has, technically, never happened. But that doesn't mean it never will.]

How do they do that?

[Bucky's starting to worry. These events are always connected. This person he's seeing is probably here in Wonderland or knows people in the mansion. That means monsters could be here, trying to take souls.]

Tell me.
determinedest: (* Are you a star?)

[The lines of their expression stiffen.]

They kill you. They kill you to take your SOUL. A human's greatest strength is in the SOUL, and monsters have grown envious of that. Left unchecked, they will destroy us all.

[None of it is a lie. They speak the truth, from where they stand. But none of it has happened, and the humans' strike is, in a word - preemptive, at best.]

[That's exactly what he didn't want to hear.]

How do you stop them?

[It probably sounds like a stupid question, kill them being the obvious answer, but he knows things aren't always that simple.]
determinedest: (* I just want everyone to be happy...)

[personal profile] determinedest 2017-05-14 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You kill them.

[It is, indeed, alarmingly simple. The MERCY that should be characteristic of Frisk has all but dissolved, leaving nothing but a false truth sheathed in ice. They will believe nothing else.]

The intentions of others, when they are strong enough, can destroy a monster before the first hit has even been landed. They are vulnerable to the emotions of those they face.

Emotions affect them that severely?

[Bucky frowns again, arms folding over his chest. All of this was a bit farther than his training would allow, but now it was beginning to sound like magic.]

How are they a threat, then, if feelings can bring them low?
determinedest: (* ERASE)

[personal profile] determinedest 2017-05-15 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
The SOUL is the human's greatest strength. It is also our greatest weakness.

[They've no qualms with issuing potentially sensitive information to a fellow human. And if it turns out to be a monster in disguise - it is quite easily common knowledge among their accursed kind already.]

Should a monster take one SOUL, just one, they could easily wipe all of us from the surface of the earth. We cannot allow that chance.

[personal profile] readytocomply 2017-05-23 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Have they done that before?

[Bucky feels as if he's pressing the limits of what he's allowed to know, considering how much they've already shared with him, but he's curious.]

Taken souls and attacked?
determinedest: (* All we have are sparkling stones.)

[personal profile] determinedest 2017-05-23 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[And therein lies the hesitation. The glance aside, the clench of their jaw. The deepening of the lines around their scowl, as though he played a particularly nasty card.]

We could not take the risk.

[So...no.

It was an attack based on what might happen, rather than what has.]
