[ o p e n / event ]
Who: Oliver and YOU
Where: all over
When: throughout the event
Rating: PG13, mentions of death, torture, trauma
Summary: recently shipwrecked and tortured young Oliver in Wonderland. with dinosaurs.
The Story:
1. arrival
[ every day on the island, oliver thinks he can't get any more scared. every day on the island - proves him damn wrong. there are so many questions that need answering; who are those people looking for yao-fei? where is yao-fei? where is he? everything hurts so bad, but oliver forces himself to somehow - somehow - pull himself up and examine his surroundings.
he's indoors. how could he be indoors? did he go crazy? was it all a sick dream? no - the way his body yells at him feels way too real. maybe this is the dream. maybe this is a drug? some sort of comics-worthy hallucinogenic? if it takes away his pain, he's more than game for it.
he digs in his pocket for laurel's picture. he finds a phone. a phone? this is crazy. it's a long shot. it's not possible. he tries to dial home.
of course it doesn't work. but he seems to be getting through somewhere - and he instantly hangs up and drops that phone like it bit him. there are no cell towers on lian yu. how could it be going through? he expects the phone to ring, expects a menacing threat or a gun shoved in his face. nothing happens. with a groan he picks the thing back up and shuts it down. maybe it'll come in handy, he's in no position to give up resources.
hurt, pale, with long unkempt hair and dirty everything, oliver starts dragging himself through the hallways, leaning against the walls at times, resting on the floor when his strength deserts him. ]
2. that's a dinosaur.
[ because that's what the worst place on earth was missing: dinosaurs. what kind of worst place on earth would it be without dinosaurs? did he somehow wash up on isla nublar?
oliver has managed to clean himself up a little bit, and made it a whole oh - step? ish? outside the front door - when he made the critical mistake of looking up.
his eyes grow huge, and he tries to - slowly - search for that door handle. ]
This can't be real - [ muttered to himself in an attempt to reassure. it's not doing a great job. the fear sure is real.
after the door incident, you can find him glued to a window peaking at the creatures with a mixture of awe is fear. is he expecting them to storm the mansion? well, he's not not expecting them to do that... ]

that's a dinosaur »
Intimidating buggers, aren't they? [ she only speaks up once she's closer -- once she realizes that beneath that mess of hair is a marginally younger version of mister queen. he looks more spooked than composed, which is remarkable in and of itself.
peggy draws back and edge of the drapery. ]
I do believe I've now seen it all.
[ dinosaurs. ]
no subject
but he can't shake this. it all feels too vivid to not be real, it feels too insane to be real.
he jumps when she speaks, and looks at her, calming a little when she turns out to distinctively not be the man in the mask. ]
If this isn't all, count me out of the rest.
no subject
no, it's hard for her to ignore the opportunity at hand. ]
It could be worse. [ she suggests. ] It could be zombies.
[ somehow, dinosaurs are preferable. ]

[ as far as he's concerned - wonderland, the island - they're a continuation of the same thing. he doesn't know what to believe, and doesn't really want to stop and think about it too hard. he doesn't really want to stop and think about anything too hard, because if he's to survive this place - whatever it is - he can't look back. and thinking, well, it can't help but drag him back there. ]
no subject
[ ah, yes, a joke made in honour of one steve rogers. she grimaces through it before continuing. ]
Although, truth be told, I doubt we're even on Earth.
no subject
[ he looks back out the window - and back at her ]
You really believe it? This - being Wonderland? [ his tone isn't judgmental - it's curious. he's trying to figure out where he stands and he's never had to stand all on his own before. ]
no subject
heaven forbid. ]
And perhaps 'Wonderland' is just the easiest way the oldest inhabitants, here and gone long before us, might have had of understanding the whole thing.

...Are you okay?

what is a girl doing here? he must be hallucinating. why is he hallucinating a teenager he doesn't recognize when he could be seeing laurel again. maybe in his own mind, there's a tiny shred of hope that she could someday maybe not completely hate his guts. what he did was wrong, it was awful, it cost her sara - but hasn't he been punished enough?
he looks at the girl, eyebrows furrowed, confused, scared, uncertain. ]
Where is this? [ he's never seen a place like this anywhere on the island. can they find them here, is what he really wants to know. do they run - or can he rest.
he's so tired. ]
no subject
no subject
How did you get here? [ was she shipwrecked too? was she kidnapped? she doesn't seem familiar - he digs through his mind all the same though. maybe she's the daughter of someone rich and powerful? maybe they got yao fei and decided to keep oliver for some extra money once they're done? ]
I -- [ yes. so bad. but she's a kid he doesn't want to scare her. ] is there a safe place to rest? [ he needs to sit, he needs to think, he needs -- he needs his mom. he's a kid too. ]
no subject
Yeah, that room, [She points at a door that falls between them] was empty. It had a couch and some chairs.
[She's so past any threshold she's ever had for being scared to the point where she can't really be anything but this right now. She's too tired and hungry and and running on fear already.]
no subject
[ he says without really believing that they could but what's the alternative? her story sounds like pretty much how'd he tell his. ]
Help me get there - [ she can't support his weight, he knows, but he's worried about letting go of the wall without any support to take its place.
first thing first. he needs to sit. then they can talk. ]

dinosaur
What's the phrase? Seeing is believing?
[Is that what those non-fairytale folk say?]
no subject
And believing is crazy.
[ this feels crazy. impossible. all of it. he's still not sure if he didn't just go crazy from the pain. he's not sure he'll ever be sure of that. ]
no subject
Aye, that it is. Then again, we are in a place called Wonderland, where I'm starting to think a dino making a sad attempt to break into a mansion is not the strangest thing that's happened.
[He looks down at Oliver, then back up.]
Did you do something to provoke it?
no subject
[ does it really look like it's trying to break in? he tries to look closer while also staying a big closer to the wall, a bit more hidden from the outside. ]
no subject
And has no one attempted to wrangle or get rid of this thing? We're just going to sit here and let it knock on our door like this?
[He never liked sitting back and doing nothing... and this is no different. Besides, how harmful can Wonderland dinosaurs be?]
no subject
Are you volunteering?
[ he's not wrangling a dinosaur. he wouldn't even try to wrangle a goat now that he has a steady food supply, so definitely not something that can stomp him. ]
2: DINOS
I am so not equipped to deal with giant prehistoric lizards. Especially ones with teeth bigger than me.
no subject
Is anyone? That's not rhetorical by the way - [ he'd love to know who to hide behind. ]
no subject
...Superman, probably. So the Superboys too, since they're all basically invulnerable. But I don't think they'd punch dinosaurs unless provoked, either. And being bulletproof doesn't necessarily mean you know what to do when a T-Rex decides you're a snack.
[She sighs and shrugs a shoulder.] Besides, the way things are going here lately, none of them probably even know they have their powers anymore.
[She glances over at him--and realizes with surprise who she's talking to. He looks... different. Which means he's not going to remember meeting her, which at least gives her the chance to... not be quite as embarrassing and awkward, this time around. Maybe.]
no subject
-- that was a lot of words that don't go together. [ powers? invulnerable? superboys? what? ]
no subject
Yeah, I'm sorry. I forget, sometimes. Not everyone is used to superpowers and heroes. Do you have them where you're from?
[If he doesn't... well, it makes the differences make a little more sense.]
no subject
[ he's not bothered by the laughter, not in the least, but he is trying to figure out whether she's serious or not. superheroes? that sounds ridiculous. ]
