Yeah, our hands will get more wrinkled and our hair will be grey
Who: Kol and Rebekah Mikaelson
Where: Outside Davina's room
When: The mornoon after the ball
Rating: R simply because of possible suggestions and Kol's mouth.
Summary: Rebekah bumps into Kol on his way back to his room after a drunken sleepover at Davina's
The Story:
[ When Kol was roused, he had a hangover headache that could kill - he felt too gross for hair of the dog and too sick to his stomach for Advil. So he decided more sleep was the answer... Even if it wasn't next to a beautiful girl.
The Ball had been a beautiful event, and Kol had had a blast.
He wasn't too worried about whatever Davina would get up to - there was a king sized bed singing a siren song back in his room. He's also not fussed about his appearance, his hair a hot mess and his vest, tie and coat long disregarded under his arm. His shirt wrinkled and unbuttoned halfway down his chest.
The witch pulls the door closed behind him and turns, only to see one of the last people he'd hoped to see - Rebekah. His darling sister. ]
Bloody brilliant.
[ It's muttered more to himself than her, but he's sure she's got something to say. ]

Rebekah freezes in place, having been halfway through her own door with the intention to visit the kitchen, and it takes her a moment to collect herself, though her eyes narrow carefully, judicious as she looks the warlock over. Naturally, she assumes this to be exactly what it looks like.]
Late night?
[Two little words, and yet there's a great deal packed into them. His spending time with her charge makes this very much her business.]

[ Kol doesn't like that look, not at all, and even hungover him has his own preservation in mind, his free hand immediately coming up to hover in the space between them, as if telling her to back off. She wasn't as volatile as Nik, that's true but he'd still done nothing but terrorize her since he'd arrived.
He takes a step back, pressing himself against the door he'd just exited, if he needed to he could throw it open and stumble through it to the safety of Davina's room. ]
You stay away from me.
[ It doesn't for a second play out in his head that Rebekah had Davina's intentions in mind. Toying with Magic with a migraine this bad would probably end badly for them both however, so he refrains from doing anything to make a break for it.
It doesn't occur to him that Rebekah is stepping into the role Marcel had held. They'd pissed about after the ball in surprisingly innocent drunken shenanigans before heading back to her room to pass out before anything Rebekah assumed could happen. But he doesn't think to try to elaborate. It wasn't Rebekah's business nor was it anyone's when he felt like he'd been hit by a train. ]

[She doesn't move forward, makes no attempt to make contact with him, just stands there and stares shrewdly, disapproval rolling off of her in waves.]
I feel I ought. This is my room, you're the one who's come near me.
[You started it, Kol. Even if you were technically starting something entirely different with Davina and Rebekah being across the hall was just an unhappy coincidence.]

Afternoon neighbour.
[ There's a somewhat devious amusement to him when he trails his gaze from her room to his own. Even if his brain is trying to ooze out of his skull, he can't help but be playful - it's in his nature. ]
I was simply heading back to my room.
[ Surprise bitch. ] Bet you thought you'd seen the last of me.
[ As for what he may or may not have been starting with Davina is his business, not Rebekah's. ]
Darling, you really may want to change your expression - what would we do if it got stuck like that, then no one would want to talk to you.
no subject
Unfortunately, no-- while I'd have loved to have seen the last of you ages ago, I know I'm nowhere near that lucky.
[She raises both eyebrows at him, incredibly doubtful.]
And you know so much about what makes an engaging conversationalist? [Beat.] Stay away from Davina Claire.
no subject
Actually I do, people love me.
[ Expression sobering up immediately, Kol just looks at her, unimpressed by being told what to do by his little sister. ]
I've never been one for rules or authority; when someone tells me not to do something, I always have this strange urge to do it no matter what. Afraid I'm a bad influence on her? That I'll break her little heart? Too bad none of that is your call to make.

[She doesn't sound convinced. So far, all she sees is a rude, meddlesome busybody who makes a habit of sticking his nose where he ought not to.]
What I think is that Davina is a young but incredibly capable girl who has been used enough already. I've promised her I'd keep a watchful eye-- and brats who don't meet with my approval certain do not make it on the guest list. Some of the worst monsters are the most charming.
[And he simply knows too much about their family and the situation in New Orleans for her comfort.]
no subject
I've got no intention of using her - if you paid enough attention as you kept your watchful eye you might've noticed that I've been helping her with stuff she'd never learnt thanks to her coven.
[ He steps forward, closing the space he put between them, to lean down and look her in the eyes, an angry sneer on his face as he does. ]
You can call me a brat and a monster all you like - but I'm not going to go looking for the approval of another spoilt monsterous brat. I'd suggest you leave me alone and get over whatever this is, perhaps find something else to waste your unending time on because I'm not going anywhere and if you try to take Davina away from me, I may begin making threats towards you - something I've refrained from doing thus far.
no subject
[She snorts, terse. He can say he's helping her, but so had everyone else who'd used her up until this point-- even Marcel had initially taken responsibility for the girl as a way to get to her power, allowing her to study and do what she would with her magic so that she would be of use to him. The bond that grew between them, as far as Rebekah was concerned, was secondary, though that made it no less real.]
You need not worry about anyone taking Davina from you, regardless-- as she is not yours to be taken.
[It's his choice of language that bothers her most, causes her to grit her teeth.]
She has been owned and claimed by far more people than have ever had the right-- no one has the right to lay claim to another person, that choice is hers and hers alone, by mark my words. If you lay a hand on her, do any harm to a single hair on that girl's head, I will make you rue the day you dared to look at me and open that smart little mouth of yours.
no subject
He doesn't bother to explain himself. ]
Are you done? Or are you intending on threatening me more? She's in there you know, she can probably hear you foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog.
[ He pauses, a menacing smile on his face. ]
Perhaps you're spending too much time around Nik.
[ Clearly Beks is off her trolley. ]
Good to know you've gone mad in the past year. I'm not going to hurt her, and if I've got to explain that to one more blonde bint, I might toss myself out a window to spare myself the mind numbingly annoying conversation.
[ He turns from her, moving towards his own bedroom door, simply wanting to escape this nightmare of a conversation with his ex partner in crime. ]

[That is decidedly Nik's department; Rebekah likes to believe she has a touch more class than that. It's what sets them apart.
She narrows her eyes at the use of the nickname; it was one that never saw much use outside of the family, and even then, it was rare. He openly preferred Klaus, and being too familiar with him when he hadn't given permission was potentially quite dangerous.]
Turn your back all you want. There will still be eyes watching, and mine won't be the only ones.
[She's pretty sure Hayley will be a bro about this.]
no subject
Their dastardly brother had absolutely no class in Kol's opinion.
The comment about being watched causes him to stop, hand on the doorknob. ]
I'm not going anywhere, so watch all you'd like - I couldn't care less. [ Actually he could, and it makes him a little angry. ] But if you and Cami - or whoever it is you plan to have watch me - try to meddle, I'll see to it you haven't got eyes left to watch me with.
[ Of course is the way of Kol, threaten him and he has to give it back threefold. ]
